What is UF PROMISE? It’s our PROMISE to you.
UF PROMISE is a program aimed at transitioning first-year college students into the University of Florida and continues to work with students until they graduate. The program works in conjunction with the Office of Admissions, where students are selectively chosen upon entering their first year at UF. Through the admissions process, the university selects candidates for the program who will benefit from additional scholarly support and enrichment for success at UF. Through our program, we encourage these students to grow and meet their full potential beyond their first year at UF.
How does it work?
PROMISE students must begin their first semester during the Summer B term at UF. Upon their arrival, they are initiated into the PROMISE Living Learning Community (PLLC), where other PROMISE students share the same residence area on campus. This opportunity allows for peer networking, early college friendships, and lasting relationships among fellow Gators and UF PROMISE scholars. Residing in the PLLC is a requirement for all PROMISE Scholars.
Upon arriving on the UF Campus at the start of Summer B, PROMISE scholars are required to attend UF Connect. Our annual UF Connect event lets incoming first-year students meet their fellow peers, discover campus resources, and meet their PROMISE Peer Coaches (PCs), all while becoming accustomed to a university setting for the first time.
What are additional benefits of being a PROMISE scholar?
PROMISE scholars have access to exclusive resources such as academic advising through OAS and ACC, priority options for smaller class sizes during Summer B, and access to priority registration and advising. They also complete the 'First Year Florida' course, a section dedicated specifically for PROMISE students. In addition, PROMISE students can also utilize other resources offered through OAS, including access to scholarship opportunities (merit and need-based), academic, professional, and personal enrichment workshops. Finally, PROMISE scholars participate in the OAS Peer Coaching program that connects first-year students with well-established students that are here to assist in their transition and provide helpful guidance that a fellow student best provides.
